πŸ”Project Scope

The scope of the EBS Pay project covers both the retention of existing foundational functionality and the introduction of new, business-critical services. The overarching goal is to transform the platform into a one-stop digital payment hub for customers and retailers, with robust administrative oversight.

In-Scope Items

The scope is defined by the retained core features and the expanded functionality areas outlined in the Product Requirements Document (PRD).

A. Existing Features (to be retained)

  • Dashboard Analytics: Real-time insight into sales performance, transaction volumes, and wallet activity.

  • Airtime & Data Vending: Seamless purchase and vending of airtime and data bundles through established telco integrations.

  • Order & Transaction Management: End-to-end tracking of transactions with the ability to export history for reporting and reconciliation.

  • Agent/Retailer Management: Tools for onboarding, wallet activity monitoring, and commission tracking.

  • Admin Controls: Role-based access management, platform configuration, and system settings for administrators.

B. Feature Expansion (New Capabilities)

The project introduces five major new development areas that form the foundation for the next phase of EBS Pay:

  1. Wallet Funding & Management (Retailer and Customer Apps) Implementation of a robust wallet system allowing users to fund, store, and manage balances.

    • Retailers earn cashback commissions on wallet funding and vending activities.

    • Customers can fund and transact but do not earn commissions.

    • Includes audit logs for every transaction. (Must-have: Core to the business model and transaction flow.)

  2. Bill Payment Integration (All User Types) Integration with third-party APIs for payments such as DSTV, electricity, internet, and government-related fees (taxes, levies, etc.).

    • Real-time validation and payment confirmation.

    • Unified history of airtime, data, and bill payments. (Must-have: Primary value proposition and revenue driver.)

  3. Retailer Cashback & Commission System A built-in reward model for retailers that automatically calculates and displays cashback and earned commissions in their wallet or reports.

    • Applies to vending, wallet funding, and transfer transactions.

    • Promotes adoption and loyalty among vendors and agents. (Must-have: Key to market differentiation and engagement.)

  4. Admin Reconciliation & Oversight (Admin Web App) Development of a manual funding reconciliation tool and expanded administrative dashboard.

    • Admins can view and reconcile wallet funding, withdrawals, and transfer records.

    • Ability to flag or approve transactions, track disputes, and review audit logs. (Must-have: Ensures compliance, control, and operational accuracy.)

  5. UI/UX Redesign & Platform Optimization A refreshed interface for both web and mobile apps, emphasizing mobile-first design, accessibility, and user-friendly workflows.

    • Simplified navigation for vending, transfers, and bill payments.

    • Fully responsive layout with consistent branding. (Must-have: Critical for adoption and user satisfaction.)

Out-of-Scope Items

The following are excluded from this phase but may be considered in future releases:

  • Advanced Fraud Detection & System Monitoring: Baseline fraud checks will be in place, but advanced AI/ML-driven fraud systems are deferred (Should-have).

  • Analytics Visualization: Interactive, dynamic dashboards for advanced insights are planned for a later phase (Could-have).

  • Multilingual & Extended Accessibility Features: Full localization and advanced accessibility improvements are postponed (Could-have).

  • Broadband Storefront Enhancements: Beyond the MVP version, further storefront capabilities (product variations, advanced logistics, etc.) are deferred (Won’t-have for now).
